The Diocese in Brief

The Anglican Diocese of Katsina or Diocese of Katsina (Anglican Communion) is a missionary Diocese within the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) otherwise known as the Province of Nigeria. Located in the northwestern region of Nigeria, it operates under the Ecclesiastical Province of Kaduna, confirming its place in the vast Anglican structure in Nigeria.

It is a relatively young Diocese within the fast-growing Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), established as a mission Diocese on Thursday 6th September, 1990, evolving from the larger Diocese of Northern Nigeria (Kaduna) to serve the northern region, with its early history marked by foundational work and pioneering priests under Bishop James Shekari Kwasu, with Venerable Nuhu Yohanna serving there from 1991 as a key early figure.

Key Note

Origin: The roots of Anglicanism in Northern Nigeria trace back to the original Diocese of Northern Nigeria (founded 1954), which later split into Kaduna, Kano, and Jos, creating space for new dioceses in the north.

Creation: Katsina Diocese emerged as one of several new mission Dioceses like Kebbi, Dutse, and Gusau, established in the north during the late 1990's, a period of significant expansion for the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion).

Growth: The Diocese experienced rapid growth, characteristic of the Church of Nigeria, which was declared the fastest-growing in the Anglican Communion.

The Anglican Diocese of Katsina administers its pastoral care within Katsina. Katsina State spans approximately 24,192 square kilometers and is divided into 34 local government all falling under the Diocese's Ecclesiastical oversights for parishes, mission and evangelism, and clergy preferments.

The diocese maintains a focus on spiritual formation and local service, prioritizing scriptural fidelity over ecumenical accommodations on issues like human sexuality.
